Radio Frequency is a non-invasive treatment which uses radio waves directed through a probe head which is rested onto the skin. The radio waves are directed at the skin to produce a heating effect. Radio Frequency Treatment has been used for many decades for a variety of medical applications.

Skin Tightening targets the deeper layers of skin, heating them up. This creates stimulation of the skin and in particular, the collagen, a substance which gives elasticity to the skin. This causes water molecules in the deeper layers of skin to vibrate. This creates friction which causes the heating effect. When heat is applied to collagen fibres, they shrink and tighten up, and over time following the treatment, new collagen also forms. Whilst the deeper skin layers are being heated, the therapist will cool down the top layers of skin using a cooling gel.

Naturally, our skin loses elasticity and suppleness through its ageing process or a fluctuation in weight and as our skin thins, the signs of time become more prevalent. The Radio Frequency energy works by stimulating the contraction of existing collagen fibers and the production of new cells to smooth, tone, lift and plump the skin. Areas of treatment include:

  • Thighs
  • Arms
  • Bingo Wings
  • Post-baby tummies
  • Stomach
  • Legs

The treatment can be used on any part of the body to tighten any loose and sagging skin. It is also suitable for any age group. After treatment the skin contours more to the body as it has tightened up and it will also become rejuvenated, being younger and fresher in appearance.

This treatment has numerous uses, some of the most common are:

  • Reducing pockets of stubborn fat
  • Improving the look and texture of stretch marks and scars
  • Lifting the skin on the face and neck to give a non-invasive and natural looking facelift
  • Targeting areas of cellulite
  • Lifting the breasts after dramatic weight-loss, natural ageing or breast feeding

Many clients find the treatment relaxing. The procedure should never feel painful nor will it burn you. Your aesthetician will monitor your progress carefully during the procedure, as well as your comfort levels.

Radio frequency body contouring is not a one-off procedure. We typically recommend a course of six treatments. Of course, everyone is different; your experienced aesthetician will undertake a thorough assessment during your consultation to prepare a personalised procedure plan.

Clients may sometimes experience some very mild discomfort or warming sensation. This is temporary and only during the treatment.

This will depend on your body type, the area treated and the results you’re looking for. Most people notice a visible and lasting improvement after 2 to 3 sessions. The treatment can be used on any part of the body to tighten any loose and sagging skin. It is also suitable for any age group. After treatment, the skin contours more to the body as it has tightened up and it will also become rejuvenated, being younger and fresher in appearance. Some clients (rarely) experience a slight redness and tenderness. This is only temporary and should subside within a few hours / days. No heating treatments are to be done on the day of procedure such as laser, pulsed light treatments or sun beds. Keep your therapist updated with any changed health issues, new medications or reactions as you continue with your treatments.

Following a complete treatment course, results should last for as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle. Again, this varies from one individual to the next and depends on factors including diet, age and genetics. Top-up treatments may help to maintain results.
